Bikini Tops

I was in a 4wd store the other day looking to get a bikini top for my cj. They had some in there at a very decent price, but none for anything older than a '76. The problem is the guy at the store was a dumbass and wouldn't special order one for me (he wanted me to buy one for twice as much) and I cant seem to find these tops on the manufacturers website. They were Genuine Steel products.

Does anyone know if they are any good to start with or if I should just pay the extra money and go with Steel Horse?

Re: Bikini Tops

1. Never buy Steel Horse products (except their seats).
2. See number 1.

Re: Bikini Tops

Try www.4wd.com. They feature Bestop which is pretty decent. Also they will be able to help you out with the older CJ stuff.

Re: Bikini Tops

Not sure for your idea of "very decent price"... but try item 31022 and 31021 at http://www.quadratec.com/

or like greencj7 said...

Re: Bikini Tops

I've heard the steelhorse california brief (strapless bikini) is the way to go, at least for CJ-8's, the Bestop equivalent sags more and is more $. I was suprised, but steelhorse was the preffered top on a thread on the cj-8.com board (I guess since there is no metal on it, it can't rust like everything else they make!)

Re: Bikini Tops

I actually liked my steel horse bikini more than the current bestop. as mentioned before, there is more sag in the bestop as well as like a $10 difference in price. however, steelhorse didnt have the color option i needed for my doors.

Re: Bikini Tops

Stay away from anything made by Rusty Pony (Steelhorse). I have had noting but bad luck with their stuff. The straps are weak on the tops and come off. (Gotta keep a few tiewraps around just for the top) The stiching will come out. Just no quality. The do replace them, but they don't last the season. On the other hand, my best top stuff lasts for years.
