Auto Trans Ticking Noise on CJ8 postal - fixed?

Does anyone know if the auto trans noise was ever fixed or diagnosed? I can't seem to find the thread on this or the JU forum.

I have the same problem with my trans and was hoping to benefit from the discussion. My trans was fine until I put the 360 in. I used the 258 torque converter and the 360 flexplate. The flexplate did not appear cracked (I looked closely). The trans makes a ticking noise that gets faster and louder on accelleration through first and second only. It does not always happen and if I take my foot off the gas briefly and then tromp on it a little I can often cause the noice to go away. It seems like something is loose and shifting around enough to hit something else, but I can't figure it out. I have checked the torque converter bolts and they are tightMy hunch is that the ring gear is making contact with the starter, but I pulled the starter and where I thought it was making contact (right where the shaft goes into the tip of the housing), I ground away a bunch of metal and the ticking did not change one bit.

Any ideas? I have driven it this way for a few thousand miles. The trans fluid is fine with no metal beyond very fine powder on the magnet.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The fix was posted here a couple of days ago. They flushed the tranny and the ticking was in the exhaust, last sighted they were headed for Rushmore. Haven't heard back from them since they left Helena...

So the question is: Where's Waldo (I mean Eric/Jason)?
