cage ????? with dash pad.

I just pulled the CJ in the shop today to start building the cage. Anyway, i am going to keep the dash pad. I really dont like the look without one. So what has everyone done to go around the pad. If you have pics that would be great. Also how does everyone fish mouth theres. I have that handy dandy speedway rig that you use a hole saw with. But that is just a pain in the a$$ to use. I was thinking of doing something in the milling machine, with an end cutter or a fly cutter. I was thinking of cutting a VEE in the end first with the band saw then milling it out, doing that would make life easier on the mill.

Thanks

What was up with the blank thing. I had to type that damn post twice.

Re: cage ????? with dash pad.

You will just need to bend the front hoop properly to fit. My Smittybilt front hoop was made to fit with a pad, and it was pretty darn cheap.

Re: cage ????? with dash pad.

Brad you wouldnt happen to have any good pics of where it goes around the pad. I saw the hoop on the net once but it wasnt installed or didnt show it with the pad there. I am not using a front hoop, so i cant buy anything. I am coming from the stock cage forward then down. With a speader going from side to side behind the top of the windshield.

Re: cage ????? with dash pad.

The Smitty front hoop I ordered for my hardtop came to me with the bend for the padded dash (seems the hardtop version only comes that way) and can be seen in a recent post about full cages.
I use a chop saw (two 45* cuts, nip the ends off), a tubing notcher (hole saw jig) and a miter program that you input the sizes and angle then print out the template that is taped to the tube and cut.

Re: cage ????? with dash pad.

I've seen a cage that utilized the indents on the dash made for side vent windows on hard doors that just came straing down up close and out of the way. I think when I build one I might trade dashes out so I can get one with the indents on the ends.

Re: cage ????? with dash pad.

Matt, I have it on my laptop that I left at work. Tomorrow I can email the program to you if you want it is a very small shareware program. It was originally developed for bike frames, but works good for other things.
