CJ-5 Roll Bar...

Seeing as I am new to the 4x4 world I have a question about the Rollbar that is on my CJ-5...Well I guess it is more of a cage...My question concerns how it is mounted and if it is safe...The forward posts of the cage, right up by your feet, are just bolted to the tub...Is this correct or should there be some sort of outrigger to attached them to the frame???...Or can you put a steel plate between the tub and the post to distrubute and force that might be placed on the cage???...

Re: CJ-5 Roll Bar...

Some people think that mounting to the body is good enought. Using different size mounting plates, top and bottom, sandwiching the body is a good idea. The different size plates keep the body from flexing up and down in the same spot at the plates.
I prefer mounting to the frame using outriggers. Somebody sells an outrigger kit for this, but don't remember who, I made my own. Be sure to use a bushing between the outrigger and the cage/body so the body can still flex on the frame.

The company who manufactures the frame mounts you are requesting is called M.O.R.E. offroad and you can contact them at www.mountainoffroad.com.
