Winch size on CJ

I want to put a winch on my CJ-7, and I'm not sure how big I should go. I've got a 304, 3 speed transmition, with 35" tires (No spare yet). Any advice.
Thanks in advance.

A minimum of 1.5 x Loaded Jeep weight, and a snatch block to double the pull rate.

Wayne is right! A 6000 # would brobably get you by if you aren't real loaded down or TOO stuck. An 8000# would get you out of just about anything a Jeep could get into!

I had a 6000 on my toyota and had to double the line almost every time. I got a 8000 on my cj its works but i do not drive like i used to. If i was buying a new winch I would buy the biggest i could afford. You don't know you might buy a full size truck next time.. A 8000 is good but you could buy a 10 or 12 for what a 8000 will be in ten years.

Re: Winch size on CJ

I've had a Warn 6000 lb on my CJ7 since 1986. The only time I ever had to use the snatch block to double the line pull was pulling a 3/4 ton Dodge out of the Gila River that was sunk overnite up to it's doors. But, considering the price difference, I would suggest an 8000 would probably be your best bet. If weight is a real factor, though, a 6000 will serve just fine, I've used mine more times than I can remember.
