YJ grill on CJ frame question

Hey Guys,

Feel free to flame, but I need a new grill and can get a YJ one cheap. I already have a YJ body and fenders on my CJ, but will the grill and hood mount up correctly to the frame? Any mods that need to be done?

thanks
C-rapidly becoming Yjay:P

Re: YJ grill on CJ frame question

dude, WTF?!? Ive heard of Wrangler tubs on a CJ frame and CJ bodys on Wrangler frames, but a full Wrangler on a CJ? yeck! shameful, really...
I would think you'd need the hood, too. Lookin at my CJ and the chicks YJ, the YJ hood looks a lot more flat across teh front. could just be an illusion caused by the SQUARE lights (yuck). Ive seen posts about putting the CJ grill on a YJ and having some length of frame/asthetic issues..

Re: YJ grill on CJ frame question

DON'T DO IT!!!!! There are to many Yuppie Jeeps now! Hell, ask for donations! I have access to six or seven parts jeeps that I could get grill from for free (well, I made a trade for parts for a diesel engine I had laying around, so I still have lots of credit with the guy) that I would GIVE to you to keep you from committing such a sin, but since I live in Alaska, that's not really an option. However, I'm sure SOMEBODY that is a committed CJer will help you out to prevent such a crime! C'mon, somebody help out here!

Re: YJ grill on CJ frame question

Since CJ frames are 4" narrower than YJ frames, the fenders might be problematic to bolt up. You may need to cut away some of the inner fender to clear things like the shock-towers.
If you look on E-Bay, I see CJ grills going on there for $20-25 all the time. The trick is finding one close enough to avoid shipping costs, which can easily double the expense.
