Opurtunity to buy a Cj-7, need advice!!!!

I have a friend which just happened to have a 1985 Cj-7 in his garage. He told me he would sell it to me for 1000!!!
It is all stock and has only minor rust. I already have a YJ and don't have the $ to fix them both up. So what are the pros and cons of each and which one would be a better investment long term? What should I look for before I buy it? If I decided on the Cj, I could sell the YJ and fix the Cj up. Thanks everyone

Better investment I`m not sure . There are more YJ`s around here than Carter has liver pills . For me , I`ve never liked driving what everyone else is driving and CJ`s are getting fewer and fewer . If your descrpition is accurate it sounds like a steal for a grand .If nothing has been changed in your YJ you should have the Peugot tranny which is $hit . IMO you`ll get a better return on the CJ and you will have ROUND HEADLIGHTS which we all know is super important Get some pics of it up and let us take a look .

Man, even if you just buy it for the grand and let either the YJ or CJ sit, and work on the other one. It sounds like too good a deal to pass up.

Which do you guys think I should fix up first? Does one have an advantage over the other in any way or are they about the same?

Re: Opurtunity to buy a Cj-7, need advice!!!!

there should be ton of threads about yj vs. cj
one thing I can think of offhand about the yj is that it I believe has the np231 which you might have to modify if you want to lift it.
It I believe is also lower in stock form.
I think yj's also have dana 35 rear axles with c-clips or something?
I can't be sure, I'd recommend a search.

Re: Opurtunity to buy a Cj-7, need advice!!!!

87 YJ VS 85 CJ.

I hate to say it but, I'd go CJ. if it was a 91 YJ, it would be a different story.

The 85 CJ should have a D300 T case. advatage CJ.

The Stock T-case in the 87 is not the NP231, its something else.

If it is manual they yes it's a BA10( Peugeot) they probably both have a 256.

The early wrangles pre 90. have D35 rears but with out C clips.
