What can I do to increase my gas mileage?

As most of you know...my mileage SUCKS. The 4.0/auto has a throttle body spacer, splitfiree wires, all Amsoil products...ummm...a K&N.

What else can I do to get more than 150 miles out of 15 gallons of gas? I'm not driving like an [censored] or anything! I tried driving it 70 and it does EXACTLY the same miles. 152. lol! Gas light and bogs when I turn. POS! lol!

Thanks!

Marcus

buy a GEO, he he.

Try an MSD and the K&N.

Make sure its tuned, has good, properly gapped plugs, etc.

Re: What can I do to increase my gas mileage?

First of all, you need to do a search before asking stupid questions.
A Flux Capacitor limits you to 10mpg, that is how they are designed

All Kidding aside:
I looked at the previous owner's website to find the mods.
Could be your trac loc, and make sure your front hubs are disengaged (Both will bog on turns if not operating properly). You have 3.73 gearing, so that should be ok. Throw some carb cleaner in it, and see what that does.

What size tires are you running? I can squeeze 15mpg out of my '93 4.0/5spd. And that's with 35" tires and 4.56's. I can also squeeze 9pmg out of it if I try hard enough That usually only happens when I'm wheeling, or go above 60mph on the freeway.

something isnt right.. I get between 15-20 mpg with my 5000 lb, 5.38 geared, 37" tire wearing 4.5 stroker jeep(I gotta run premium though...). the wife gets about 20 all the time.

Re: What can I do to increase my gas mileage?

Thanks for the stupid question comment...searching sucks. Love, Marcus I'm just playin man, sorry.

Anyhow, I'm running 33s, with 3.73s. When I said 'bogs' in the turns, I'm talking no gas pickup withen the gas light comes on...I just wanted to insinuate that the gas tank is EMPTY at 152 miles all the time.

As far as the hubs being engaged....how can I insure they are not engaged? I'd be willing to bet that has something to do with it...they pop every now and again when I'm turning as if they are engaged.

Thanks for the replies!

Marcus

Nah, That's cool. Hell if you have flux capacitor, who cares about MPG, you can go back to 1965 for gas
Honestly, something is wrong at 10mpg. Your trac loc will make noise, but that is just the rear right? If you lift the front end (both Tires) , turn a wheel and the front drive shaft turns, your hubs are engaged. As for why in a '97 TJ, someone here will help better than I.

Re: What can I do to increase my gas mileage?

I must agree. I'm going to pop out the ole floor jack when I get home and check that out. I bet thats something to do with it. The front has a Detroit trac-loc. Hrmm...I've never used the NEW floor jack! EXCITING!

I've also got that check engine light now....it could be anything.

Thanks man!

Marcus

Re: What can I do to increase my gas mileage?

Probobly isn't though, you would see real hard turns, but worth a shot. Focus on the CEL, that will probobly tell you where your gas is going.
Hmm, as I do not have lockers, will a front trac lock reset (bang) when not under load (Hubs not engaged)? I don't think it does.

Re: What can I do to increase my gas mileage?

Did we go through this before? I'm getting this feeling that I've been here before......(memories of some C,S,&N song)

It's virtually impossible for you to get 10 mpg without some other problem that is so out of whack that you have an operaitonal anomoly severe enough to throw a code (I assume that your check engine light is a recent thingie).

ARE YOU SURE that your speedo is correct? You are getting about 2/3 the mileage that you should be getting. With 33" tires and a 3.73 gears you need either a 30 or 31 tooth gear.

If in fact you have the wrong gear ...the only thing that will happen is that you will feel better. You will not travel .1 mile further on a tank of gas.

BTW- do you mean that your front diff has a Detroit TrueTrac?

Go here for your engine light <a target="_blank" href=http://www.jeepresourceuk.co.uk/main26.html>http://www.jeepresourceuk.co.uk/main26.html</a>
