Re: Need Some help with steering!!!!

I couldnt bleed the system, it is manual steering. But, I am thinking about converting it to power. Did they make CJ5's with power steering?
Thanks,
Chris

yes they did come with power, on most things I would say don't give up and just replace it, but power steering such a plus off road.

Just a thought, did you get the box in the center of its turning range before you hooked up your pitman arm with the tires point to the front?

Re: Need Some help with steering!!!!

I had the tires centered but I dont think the box is. But, if I center up the box then the tires go out. And, the pitman arm is lined up on the shaft with the center marks. It there an adjustment on the link that goes from the pitman arm to the bellcrank? Because if there is, could I just adjust that?
Thanks,
Chris

Sounds like the old ross steering gear with the bell crank. Do you have two short tie rods?

Re: Need Some help with steering!!!!

I agree sounds like Ross box steering. If you are thinking of a lift, give it up till you change the steering, your nightmares only will get worse. I recently did the same on my Jeepster and can be done pretty inexpensively.
