Hrmm...CEL came on

I went heavy mud, over the weekend. During my lunch break the CEL (check engine light) came on. What all could trigger it? On a Jeep is it like the rest of the OBD2 vehicles out there, where the CEL is mainly triggered by emission related problems? I've got the factory repair manual @ the house, I'll run the codes when I get home. Just looking for any info up front!

Re: Hrmm...CEL came on

It could be just a dirty connection or a knocked off lead. My temp sensor went crazy ..and it drove the engine crazy. I knew that the sensor was okay because it was intermittent. I pulled the connector ..sprayed some contact cleaner and viola' ..fixed. Since you're not seeing any drivability problems (at least you didn't mention any) it should not be something too serious.

Re: Hrmm...CEL came on

Thanks for the reply! I ran off to my buddies house last night and forgot my repair manual...he's about an hour from me...

I'm going to look into it tonight. I'm not seeing any drivability differences, no high temps, nothing of that sort. I think its probably the catalytic converter or an 02 sensor, we were in some deep water. Who knows! I'll let you know the outcome!

The O2 sensors run about $90 for TJs.
