Tilt steering woes

Hello everyone! Usually, I hang out in the Suzuki boards. But now I'm also the proud owner of a '90 Wrangler Sahara. Still stock and planning to keep it that way as a daily driver. If I started wrenching on that too, I'd never get out of the garage!
Anyway, the tilt steering in this thing bounces around like the button on a sh!thouse door. Will I have to replace the column, or can I tear into it and replace the worn linkage?
Thanks in advance for any replies, and W.C., that's one radical looking rig you've got there. Nice work!

Re: Tilt steering woes

That depends on what is broken or worn out. Unfortunatly you will need to tear into it to find out what it is. I replaced my bushing and pins in mine to tighten it up. I have an 87 The set up is basic GM most parts houses carry the pin/bushing repair kit. You will also need a few specialty tools. The tool that pushes the lock plate down to remove the snap ring. The tool to remove/set the pins. These are all pretty cheap at auto zone. Get a manual or some one that has done a steering column before. You can get into trouble tackling it yourself the 1st time. Things like key switch directional plate horn button sitch wiring and bushings. Not to mention the tilt gearing, if not corrct you have a floppy wheel. been there.
