Front axle grind?? 79 cj-5, dana 30

Hooray!! Yet another new noise to diagnose on my jeep! Basically i have a grinding noise in the passenger side of the front dana 30 on my cj. The noise only occurs when turning the wheel left and when the hub is locked in.

My early prognosis is that it is just an axle u-joint but I was also wondering if it could be a problem with the hub? I've never done alot of work on axles but am not afraid to try. If this is a u-joint problem how hard would this be to do myself?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

It could be the u-joint or spindle bearing. Either one isn't too difficult to repair. If I were you, I'd get it taken care of soon (other parts may be damaged if you continue to drive it). Good luck.
