Warn Overdrives

Ok, I have a couple of questions. A guy that I know said that he had a 62 CJ-5 and he put a warn overdrive in it. Also, are they still available? I would love to have on in my Cj5. If they are still not available, how could I find them? And, what do they look like?
Thanks,
Chris

Re: Warn Overdrives

Advanced Adapters bought the tooling from Warn Industries years ago. It's basically the same unit. New they are around $1100- $1300 depending if you buy their shifter, etc (call Advanced to confirm pricing). It's a good unit but very important to keep the oil level up in your transfer case as it gets it lubrication from the transfer case oil. I've seen bunches of them destroyed because of lack of maintenance. They hold up quite well. I don't recommend using them in four wheel drive cause it puts too much load on the little bitty pinion gears inside, but if you use it just for cruising down the highway they are great. You might try the Willystech site for a good used one. They usually sell for around $450--$750 depending on condition and how complete. Herm Tilford rebuilds them and may still have some around. His e-mail used to be [email protected] but not sure if that is still a good e-mail address as I haven't contacted him for a while. Good luck. Nickmil.

Re: Warn Overdrives

Hi, new guy here with a bit of info. I've read numerous posts regarding the Warn o.d. and no ones ever mentioned this so I thought I would.....original warns had 4 planetary gears, then they changed the design to 2 planetary gears. This later 2 gear version is the one AA bought and reproduces, (known as the saturn o.d.) The 4 gear type is supposed to be stronger, ya might look for one of those, or ask Herm about it if you get in touch with him.
