Anyone Using the 21 Gal. Poly Fuel Tank for CJ ?

Just wondering if anyone here is using that 21 gal. poly fuel tank for the late CJ ? Quadratech and I think 4WD W/S sells them . How far that does that puppy hang down is what I want to know .Have some long trips planned and the stock tank just doesnt hold enough and I`m not sure if I want to carry a bunch of Jerry cans with me aside from the fuel I`ll need for the boat . Thanks

Those are replacments for an option available on the early 80's models.
They hang down a litte more, Jeff, but not too badly.
I've only managed to ding mine once really good and that was in a boulder field in 'Cruses.
I bought another one from a guy back East and the skid was pretty beat up though. Again, I think that was because of the terrain ... falling down in between big boulders.
Here's what one looks like ...

It flattenes out just under where the pic is cropped.
If you are anywhere a rock can get to the bottom of it ... that rock will probably want to get your drive shaft too as it sits down at about yoke level.

I've had one on my CJ-7 since it was new. Like John said, hangs down a bit more, but my factory skid plate seems to be up to the job of protecting it, you should see the dents and gouges in the skid plate, and the tank doesn't leak.

I have the factory one too. I hangs down a good bit farther than the 15 IMHO. My skid is pretty beat and the one corner is even caved in. But no leaks, no rust and no real problems. I was thinking about taking it off but it has never really givin me enough of a reason to do so.

Virtally all of the denting and gouging I have on the skidplate is at the back part of it, its from coming down off steep ledges and such. The plate just slides along the rock.

Jaf

I know your Jeep is finished now and was curious if you have a picture of it from the rear ? Do you have to have extensions on the skid plate for the tank ? Or how does that work ? Thanks

OK, Jeff ...

I had peeled the lip of the M20's cover up when Brad and I were out showing the Albuq. gang around.
And just last weekend installed a spare with a thick tab added to the bottom of this one ... that's why it's so nice and shiney!

The camera lense is just about at the same level as the bottom of the skid which, BTW, is a deeper version of the 15 gallon unit.

John, your skid plate is in much better shape than mine. I'll take a pic of it tomorrow, show you what they can take without damaging the plastic tank.
