Re: Spark Plug Brands...

Just curious, but why do you ask if everyone runs Autolites? I run NGK's. I know quite a few run Champions. There's also some that run Bosch. Anyone that runs a Splitfire is a [email protected] fool. I heard they're good for about 1000 miles, then they just start screwing up your engine.

Re: Spark Plug Brands...

I've run Bosch, Champion, and Autolite in my 90 YJ. And I'd have to say I prefer the Bosch over the other two. Haven't tried NGK though. But the bias against Splitfire is still here..my Escort ran like crap when I had some Splitfire +4's in there..

Re: Spark Plug Brands...

Was checking out some jeep parts sites today, and 90% of them all sell the AutoLite plugs.... while not selling other common plugs I *assumed* they were common....

Re: Spark Plug Brands...

I`ll probably go Bosch, I heard good things about the NGK back when I had a car... do you know what the gap is supposed to be between... (94 YJ)

I brought up splitfire cuz that's what was in my jeep when I yanked a plug to check......

Thanks!

I don't know off the top of my head. I think somewhere around .044" or something. Ask the guy at the parts store to look it up. Also, it wouldn't hurt to invest in a Hynes and also a Chilton 's manual. Good luck!

Re: Spark Plug Brands...

Just to throw in my oar here:

I usually run Autolites for regular plugs. I really like both Autolite and Bosch Platinum plugs.

I don't like Champion plugs, but that is not based on anything but the problems I've had with them in small motors: outboards, motorcyles, 4 wheelers, lawn mowers, weed eaters, etc. I like NGK for the small stuff.

Oh, Champion does make cracker jack airplane spark plugs though!

Re: Spark Plug Brands...

splitfires are nothing more than a gimmick, just like the tornado intake modules and the mystery fuel magnets. ive run both champion and autolites and didnt notice any difference between the 2. same with the sh!tfires. they run just the same as a $1.50 plug.

standard gap on the 4.2's is .035. if you have the team rush mod or any other hotter ignition setup, its .045 to .055. i dont think the gap for the 4.0's is any different. i wouldnt take the 4.0 gap as gospel, i run a 4.2
