360 Slight knock
Okay guys,
I had a slight knock I was assuming was either the clutch or pilot bushing, I changed the oil today and the SLIGHT knock was less noticable. The engine has good compression 150 on al 8 cylinders, runs real smooth but I am now convinced the knock is either the main or rod bearings.
I know it is possible to change them without pulling the motor (nothing in the way of the oil pan) I just want to know if anyone else has done it. Also how can I tell what year engine it is?

Re: 360 Slight knock
Hmmm...another common problem with the 360s is worn cam shaft lobes. Are you sure it's not valve clatter or worn lifters?

Re: 360 Slight knock
rocker arms have gicen me probalems before, but if your rod has punched a hole thru your rocker you woudnt have the god compression numbers, unless it was an exh valve..hmm

Id go around the engine with a broom stick ( be careful!) and try and isolate the noise, it really lets you hear the engines internals well, you can hear the water pump wirring, and all teh stuff spinning, and youll be able to narrow it down to a cylinder or 2, and then diagnose from there.

Re: 360 Slight knock
I can feel the knock when I'm in the drivers seat but not when i am under the hood, it really sounds smooth under the hood. I did a visual inspection of the rockers and their pretty quiet smooth motion, plenty of oil coming out of the push rods too.
