rebuilding 258 ?\'s
two years ago, lopers, a reputable shop rebuilt my 258. big mistake. on the way home from college, it blew up. threw a rod or piston or something big. had to tow it home from idaho. took it in to lopers to say hey, what's the deal? they said it had overheated at one point and must have reached temps of 275. they say now there is no way it can be rebuilt. it has never been overheated however. maybe a gauge was wrong i don't know. but anyways...
how hot is to hot? they bored it .30 over, can i still rebuild this engine supposing everything checks out ok. they said once an engine gets this hot, it weakens the metal and there is nothing you can do. i am skeptical.
thanks for any help.
