98 TJ with cracked exhaust manifold is this common

98 TJ 4.0L with 55,000 miles and the exhaust manifold is cracked is this a common problem? If so what would you sidgest for an after market header? I have had BORLA on other trucks in the past and like them but I have a GIBSON cat back system and I dont know if the are compatible without modification. 2) does anyone make a high flow catilatic coverter for a 98 TJ 4.0L?

Re: 98 TJ with cracked exhaust manifold is this common

It's a very common ailment for the tube style, factory header used on TJ's and Cherokee's. The Cherokee one is a bit stronger but both are best replaced with another aftermarket header. The Borla seems to be a popular choice with most on this board and as for compatibilty, any muffler shop would be able to make the Borla and your Gibson fit together if they don't already.

my 97TJ had the same problem. They replaced it under the recall.

You should see if the dealer will still do a recall on it for the 98. If the VIN didn't have it done it may still be covered. My wiper linkage was on my 92 Caravan ...in 00!

If you buy a MOPAR header it carries a lifetime warranty ...price may discount the value of that claim, however.

Re: 98 TJ with cracked exhaust manifold is this common

It must have been a pretty common problem because they now use a 2 piece design - they look like cast iron headers. I just put a set of 2001's on my '98 block. If you do, make sure you get the correct manifold gaskets. I tried a '98 gasket and it leaked around the new style exhaust. Got the correct one on Thursday and it works great. Now as for the rest of my motor....
