Fly wheel questions, help!

I have a '77 CJ5 with a 304 and a T150 3 speed manual. The 304 is about done in so I've started rebuilding a 401 to drop in. All I have is the one on the 304, the 401 didn't have one when I got it. Does anyone know if the 304 flywheel will work? A friend says it will, but I have doubts. Also, if I need a new one, where would I start searching.

Re: Fly wheel questions, help!

Search for "flywheel balance". This question comes up a lot. The short answer is it won't work. You can get it rebalanced if you or the machine shop can find the specs to rebalance it.

Re: Fly wheel questions, help!

to further explain... no it wont work, the amc v-8s are externally ballenced so the 304 fly wheel will not work even though it will bolt up. If you have the specs you can get a machine shop to rebalance your fly wheel or find one used.

Good Luck
