Re: VIRUS making the rounds with BBS users...
My wife's e-mail account has been receiveing tons of bounced messages reporting that she has the Klez virus, and that the messages she is sending are infected. The infected messages you are receiving are probably not from the person on the From: line.
Here is how Klez works:
If you receive a Klez-infected email, the address on the From or Reply To lines is NOT the one that sent it to you. Likewise, if somebody accuses you of sending Klez to them, it's quite possible you (and your computer) are not guilty.
When Klez infects a computer it gathers all the email addresses it can find on that computer and secretly sends infected messages to all but one of those addresses. Klez places that one, randomly chosen, address in the From of all those outgoing messages so that it will be difficult to determine where the messages really are From, and some innocent person will be wrongly accused.
Many corporate virus protection programs (such as KU's Antigen) capture incoming or outgoing infected email and then automatically send a message to both the intended recipient and the sender accusing the sender of having an infected computer. Klez fools these virus protection programs, as well. Since the sender listed in the From line of a Klez-infected email is NOT the real sender, these protection programs mistakenly accuse innocent people of sending Klez.
