removing YJ windshield hinge pins?

i want to completely remove my windshield/frame assembly of my YJ. and it looked like all that was need to do is grind/drill the welds off both ends of the hinge pin and knock it out and replace it with a nut and bolt..........
does this sound right? i've done this and hit the pin pretty hard, but it don't want to move. i don't want to use any heat or an air hammer (i'd like to minimize the damage to the hinge/windshield)
any ideas, who has allready done this?

It's been talked about here several times. You have to grind until you can see the line all the way around. Then it should come out. Does the hinge pivot OK? You may have to let it soak in penetrant for a while if it's rusted together.

Man, if the glass worth anything to you be careful folding that thing. I cracked mine by trying to free up the hinges folding the frame alone on one side only. The frame twisted and the glass cracked... Soak the pins and they should come out after grinding.

Re: removing YJ windshield hinge pins?

I just helped someone do this on a 93. I'm pretty sure it wasn't welded, but one side of the pin was splined, so it made a difference which way you knocked it out. I just can't remember which way they came out.
