727 to 300

Will all 727 trannies hook to a jeep 300 transfer case as long as the tranny is out of a four wheel drive? Also will the tranny bolt to a 304?

Re: 727 to 300

The 727 Has to come from an AMC (258 304-401 it doesnt matter, the V-8s are all built around the same block and the sixes have the same bolt pattern). The bellhousing bolt pattern is different for the AMCs and Chryslers.
Sources say you need a 4 inch lift to clear the pan with the front driveshaft.
There is an article on the jeep web on the 727/Dana swap.

Re: 727 to 300

THANKS, NEXT IS THE OUT PUT SHAFT ON THE TRANNY. DOES IT MATTER IF THE 300 WAS BOLTED TO A MANUAL TRANNY AND NOT A AUTO.

Re: 727 to 300

Hey there, I am about to do this also so I hope it does work. As for the input.. the 300's all have 23 spline, as far as I know.I am still waiting on the junkyard for the tranny , it has been very wet here so that has been slowing the process down due to a mess at the yard. But I am very excited.I have been told by many that the 727 is about the best auto to use in a short wheel base jeep.

good luck with your prodject!!

Re: 727 to 300

Ok, but does the 300 just bolt up to the 727 with no adapter? I can find Wagoneer 727's probably easy around here. I got my 300 just sitting around, if I can find a good auto to run it with then I'll build a comp. buggy with them! if they do bolt up I cann't see why you couldn't clock the 300 so that the driveshaft was out of the way.

Re: 727 to 300

Yep they sure will. Waggie 727s with a NP transfer case behind them will bolt right up to a Dana 300. I'm using a 727 from a '83 Wagoneer with a Dana 300 behind in in my CJ6.

Re: SWEET!

I believe the 1st gear is 2.45. Clocking the 300 will put the front drive shaft even closer to the part of the tranny that causes interference.
