4.0L conversion finishing up....T-5 CPS in bellhousing...Does anyone know the distance the CPS needs to be from the flywheel?

Re: CPS Adjustment

Don't have any idea in distance. It does have to produce at least .3v AC to get reliable starts. A WAG would be about .10".

Re: CPS Adjustment

Cant you adjust it and check voltage with a meter. I think they are the same thing as a proximity probe so it should be called called gap voltage. The amount of voltage created is directly related to gap.

Re: CPS Adjustment

Don't know on the flywheel, but the aftermarket kit that uses the vibration damper needs to be anywhere from .020" to .060" gap. The instructions were something like .030", but I couldn't get mine to start. Upon calling HESCO (who puts the kit together) said to try it further away. Worked like a charm.

Re: CPS Adjustment

I bought a replacement CPS from the dealer for my 1994 ZJ that came with a .040 piece of cardboard that you stick on the end of the sensor then adjust the CPS until it touches the flywheel and tighten the bolts.

Re: CPS Adjustment

MOPAR sells those spaces you stick on the end of the CPS for about $5 for four of 'em. I highly recommend using them. It takes the guess work ouf of re-installing a CPS. Use one, and throw the extras in the tool box for "next time" because there will be a next time.

Re: CPS Adjustment

Can I just get that at a Jeep dealership or is there someplace else that I could get them from?

Re: CPS Adjustment

Any Jeep, Dodge, or Chrysler dealership with a parts dept. should have them is stock.
