T-18 Bellhousing

Does anyone know if a bellhousing off a 77 CJ-7 with a 304, T-150 tranny and dana 20 X-case will be the same as a bellhousing off a 77 CJ-5 with a 258, T-18 tranny and dana 20 X-case. I want to do the swap but need to know if they will fit together. HELP!!!

Re: T-18 Bellhousing

My 77CJ5 with a factory 304 and T150 its bellhousing perfectly fits a 1979 Jeep J10 T18.
that is of course once the adpater is removed from the tranny.

it has the holes for a FORD T18 also
BUT I dont know exactly what lenght input shaft the factory Jeep Cj T18s used? the ones Im talking about are 6.5 inches ( Ford input shaft length) and thats the shortest you can get, Ive heard conflicting info on whether the factory Cj T18s used that short 6.5 inch shaft or a slightly longer shaft.

Ive heard of folks using a T15 ( maybe something else) bellhousing with a factory Jeep T18.

sorry not much help probably

Re: T-18 Bellhousing

The bolt pattern on the back of the 258 and 304, 360, and 401 are all the same. All 76, 77, 78, and 79 bell housings are tapped for both the Ford butterfly tranny pattern (same as the T150) and the Jeep T18. That is why the Ford T18 can be used.

Good Luck!

Re: T-18 Bellhousing

Yes the T150 bellhousing is the same as the '76-79 CJ T18 bellhousing. The input shafts are the same lenght and both boltpatterns for the trannies are there. Be aware that the CJ T18 uses a special stud on the lower, left tranny bolt (when viewed from the drivers seat). The stud goes in the bellhousing before it is bolted to the engine.
