New transmission for 258 inline 6

Anybody know if there is a transmission that you can bolt into the 258 that is not a 3 speed. I would like to get an automatic of some sort to bolt in for my wife to be able to drive it too. Any help would be appreciated. Got my new Borgeson steering shaft in today. No more play in that steering.

If you want an auto, a Torqueflite 904, 999 or 727 will bolt up. But they are 3 speed autos. There are no OD autos that will bolt up.

You might chack out and AW4 from an XJ/MJ. otherwise to get more than 3 speeds your lookin at a Stick. T-19s are supposed to be pretty mild mannered (if a little long armed)

the t176 is a very car like transmission that anyone should be able to drive. I've never driven a t19, but it also has a synchronized first gear, and should be easy. with the power/weight ratio of a 258 powered jeep, learning a stick aught to be real easy.

He wanted auto, and something that will bolt in. A T-19 will not bolt in without an expensive adapter, and a T176 is just another manual trans with a not so good first gear.

Do you have a three speed auto now or a Three speed Stick?

Aw4 will bolt in but I think its longer so you might have to shorten your rear driveshaft and lengthen your front.
