TFI question

okie, i went to the local autoparts morons today and purchased and assembled all of the pieces for my new TFI upgraded dist. (held off on the coil for now because i dont trust them and figured i'd get one in a few days). Must say that coming up with that was some pretty good thinking, ok, enough rambling. My big question is about the little gap on the bottom where the advance is (btw 78 cj-5 258). i remember with my old 78 258 and 95 yj that when i would get really wet the dist cap would suck in some water so to rectify that i just lined the edge of the cap with rtv silicone. so anyway back to the question.... has anyone had this problem with that little gap at the bottom of the cap adapter and if so any solutions yet? also another little question.... i know everyone keeps saying just get the EEC coil from ford, but is there a better aftermarket coil or does it make a diff ? thx - web

Re: TFI question

As far as the cap goes, you can just seal off the bottom and put a breather on top. My ford cap already has a breather on top. You can run a hose from there to put it up and out of the way of water.

Re: TFI question

The ford EEC coil (Like from a '92 Escort) is just fine.
MSD has the best coil, but to tell you the truth, Ford's factory coil is within 2% of MSD's custom made E-core coil.

Not to confuse the program, but the discount auto parts stores are going to carry two kinds, one economy, one premium.
If you want to buy the premium (around $45), buy factory Ford or buy MSD. Both premium coils are built better than the discount store 'Premium' coils in most cases.
