New Muffler

My 86 CJ7 needs a new muffler. I would like to get the quietest possible without choking the engine. Any suggestions? Also, do cats go bad? Should I get a new one?

Re: New Muffler

I've got a $15 Cherry Bomb Turbo II on mine. I've been happy with it. It flows better than stock, isn't real loud (it is louder than stock, tho') and it's cheap to replace if I rip it off on a rock.
Yes, cats go bad. They can get clogged up and cause problems. You'd probably know it if it was clogged, tho'. There would be a lack of power from the restricted exhaust, and the cat would get hotter than normal (possibly even to the point of glowing) There's probably no need for a new one unless you're having problems.

Re: New Muffler

go with another stock style muffler if you want it to be quiet, yeah cats go bad though you eithe feel the power loss or you can tap it and if it rattles then it's on it's way out.
