black - ground
white - instrument light (any lead that is controlled by dimmer switch)
red - hot (switched)
green - negative side of coil

*it's got 4 wires a white, black green and red*

Black. Ground.
Red. 12 Volts when key is in the 'Run' position.
The spade connector was probably wedged in the 'ACC.' terminal in the fuse box.
Green. Probably to the Negitive side of the ignition coil.
White. Dash lights.
