Welded front end

Thinking of saving a little money when I add the Waggy axles and plan to weld the rear for sure, but am still debating whether or not to weld the front end. The jeep never sees 4wd on road, just the trails. Seems a welded front diff would act just like a full locker on the trail, so instead of spending $500 for the Detroit,.... weld it.
Anyone run a welded front end? Any comments, suggestions?

Re: Welded front end

Run very cheap lockouts, that way you WILL blow out the hubs instead of u-joint/axles. Be light on the gas in sharp turns too.

A few of the guys on this BBS run welded diffs. I can't attest to the longevity of such a thing but it can be done.
We used to weld up our stockcar diffs all the time, sometimes they held up, sometimes they broke.

The rear....if you're sure you want that...then it could work...personally i wouldnt recommend it for a Jeep that sees asphalt...too short of a wheelbase...and rain or snow/ice....forget it...but to each their own...

I would NOT weld the front for sure...too much stress on u-joints, hubs, etc. You're BOUND to break stuff more often that you'd like to....especially if you're running anything over 33s...
