Anyone know what the stock gears on my 90 wrangler should be? I've been told by some 3:08 and by others 3:54. (i'd prefer the 3:54!)

Re: gears

Crawl under the front of jeep and look at the tag on the diff cover. Sometimes they get rusty so just bring a wire brush with you. Godd luck .

Re: gears

Better than a wire brush is a piece of coarse sandpaper. It will not clean the rust out of the number stamps, making them easier to read. For those with old eyes like mine.

Re: gears

IT could be either....depends on what engine/trans you have.

Usually the 4cyl with a manual came with 4.10s or 4.11s...i forget which...
with an auto it was 3.54, 3.55, or 3.73...possibly...

With the 6cyl and manual, it was the mid 3's...with the auto, it was usually the low 3.08s or so...check the diff tag, or, if its missing....

1. chock front tires
2. support rear axle on jackstands
3. Trans in neutral
4. mark sidewall of tire with chalk or tape
5. repeat step #4 for driveshaft
6. rotate driveshaft, counting # of revolutions to cause BOTH rear tires to turn 1 complete revolution. BOTH tires must turn at the same rate to give you a quasi-accurate figure.
