Nuttered Carb Questions

Last weekend we nuttered the YJ, replaced the valve cover gasket, and replaced the fuel pump. Riped all of the vaccum lines and such out of it. IT no longer blows smoke at stat up, STARTS and SHUTS off. The 258 now has a longer but steady power band.

I believe it is running rich. After the nutter it will drop from 60mph to 55mph going up a hill, and before with the computer it would stay at 60-petal to the metal- How could i check this? Will i possibly need to change the main jets, if so where do i get them from? I have not adjusted the air/idle mixture screw, will that help much at all?

Re: Nuttered Carb Questions

There was a discussion on this a while ago..

Someone mentioned that the nutter wasn't infact a good mod, because it basically made you run rich at idle..

Re: Nuttered Carb Questions

IT is fine at idle. Just when going on the highway it does worse than the jeep stock. At highway speeds i try to keep the RPM up around 2-2.5. If it is running rich at idle, it is an idle air mixture problem. I will check this out tomorrow.

Re: Nuttered Carb Questions

ok, so you have it running perfect at idle, instead of being rich.. I would bet its running lean when accereated then..

right?

Re: Nuttered Carb Questions

That is true. So far i have not had time today to play with the mixture screws. When ttrying to travel up these long hills it feels like it is running rich though. Maybe somebody should stick their head down by the tail pipe and sniff at 60mph!
