grinder question

A friend of mine let me borrow his electric grinder(makita) and its time to change the disc on it. It just doesnt seem to want to come off. Any tricks to get this thing off?

Re: grinder question

got the proper wrench things?
If not, it's not coming off..

if so, set them up so you can grasp them both in your hand and squeaze them like pliers.. lots more strenght and control then using two hands..

oh and put on a pair of gardening gloves.. if your hands slip when your getting it off it can give you some nasty abrasions..

Re: grinder question

I always wore gloves to grind with, but found I was more willing to really get some force behind it wiht just gloves on..

The prospect of tearing my wrist on a grinder disk isn't that appealing to me. The gloves alow me to be a little more reckless..
Glad it helped

Re: grinder question

Safety glasses are neato when using a grinder and a long sleeve shirt is cool too , nothing like that funny feeling of ground steel when its hitting your bare arms . Know the feeling ?

Re: grinder question

Or like the sound of your skin momentarily boiling as welding splatter hits your arms?

I normally wear overalls and a pair of working pants underneath.. last time I was welding I had some splatter go through both.. really wasn't expecting it and ended up laying wire right across the bumper and onto the vice.
