I need some of that precious knowlege

Hey guys

I have a tranny question. I have a 94Yj with the 4banger and I have had nothing but problems with both of the Ax5 trannies that I have put in to it. Well I found a AX15 tranny and I'm wondering if I can make a clean swap. I don't know if anybody has every attempted this before. If you have or heard of someone doing it please respond. I'm wondering what the modifications will be if I do. Will my old bellhousing match the tranny? Will the gear shifting mechanism fit? Any input on this matter would be apprecitaed. Thanx guys

I've heard it's not possible to swap an ax15 in place of an ax5.

I know you'll need a different transfer case.. or do some mods to the one you have...the 4 abngers have fewer splines on the input shaft than the 6's..if you are swapping.. swap to a better tranny than the ax-15....

Re: I need some of that precious knowlege

So you think that I should probably upgrade to something worth the hassle then.
This is what I plan to do. I want it to get me by for a couple years and then I'm looking to put a bigger engine in. Either a Chevy V6 Vortec or up grade to the 6cyl in the TJ. So the big question I must awnser is what should I do in the mean time. Should I try to buy a transmission that will cover both engines or am I going to have to buy two seperate trannies for the two engines.
