Over Drive?

I did a search of the site here and even looked through my Jeep brochure and on their site.

I can't seem to find out if the new model TJs have over drive for the automatic transmissions. I've found out the the manual trannys do.

Your help is appreciated.

Re: Over Drive?

I'm sure they do, I don't think you can get an auto in anything that doesn't have OD anymore...

Re: Over Drive?

I don't think they have put an overdrive auto in the TJ. I haven't heard if this was going to be a future option but it hasn't happened yet.

Re: Over Drive?

I drove a new 2001 automatic TJ and it didn't have O/D and I haven't heard any thing about over drive being added for 2002.

Re: Over Drive?

This is from the http://www.jeep.com/wrangler/full_specs/full_specs.pdf

if you can't load .pdf format... for 6cyl or 4cyl TJ auto it gives -
1st - 2.74
2nd - 1.54
3rd - 1.00
4th --
5th --
Reverse - 2.20

available gear ratios - 3.73 or 3.07

Sorry, still no auto OD for short Jeeps.

Tha's what I was afraid of. I've been seeing the same information, but I was ust hoping it might have been ommitted or overlooked.

Re: Over Drive?

Don't the XJ's have overdrive though? Wouldn't it bolt right up? Not that you're looking to swap though

Re: Over Drive?

I haven't tried the swap or measured for it... but this is my impression -

seems like the XJ auto (from 4.0L w/command-trac) would bolt to a TJ engine and transfercase. not sure but I think XJ command-trac uses same t/c and input as TJ command trac
the issue would be length. the 4spd OD autos are way longer (exact measurement) than 3spd autos. I think that is main reason TJs still have only 3spd.

Re: Over Drive?

I would think the main issue would be the electronic controls for the trans.
