Ford 10.25 rearend?

Has anyone ever swapped one of these into their Jeep? My friend's got a '93 Ford F350 with a D60 upfront, and a 10.25 in the rear(or so he says). That thing looks MASSIVE!!!

Here's a picture of it. It DEFINETLY would need to be cut down.

never put on in a jeep but it would be a good axle. 1.5" 35spline shafts and of coarse a 10.25" ring gear. thses things are beefy. if you are not going to run it full width then i'd find a cab and chassis dually 14bolt. you would save $$$ over narrowing the 10.25. just my op.

Re: Ford 10.25 rearend?

Just like high5 said it's a beefy axle, but wide. That's exactly why I chose the 14 bolt cab & chassis. It's only 63" wide and a cinch to swap to discs. Mine also had 4.56 gears in it and the lowest you can find in a 10.25 (stock) is 4.10. Locker and lower gear choices aren't as wide with the 10.25 either.

How hard would one of those be to narrow down? I'm not even close to thinking about doing this, but I'm just currious. Are FF's harder to narrow down then a SF?

Re: Ford 10.25 rearend?

snowtow, they do make 5.38's for the 10.25 and the lowest for the 14bolt is 5.13. i am not sure what lockers are available for the 10.25 but me personally i would weld it. the only reason i run a detroit in my 14bolt is because the carrier i got the 4.56's with already had a detroit in it.

and jamgood96 for the narrowing question, why? if you can get a 14bolt that is already 63" you would save yourself time and money. if you really wanted to do it though i guess it could be done.

Re: Ford 10.25 rearend?

Thanks for the info Brian. The last time I checked for my F250 the lowest you could go was 4.88 on the 10.25. That was a couple of years ago though.
