rear Dana 44

I've got a Scout II Dana 44 rear axle. I think that it is a 30 spline, but is there a quick way to tell for sure?

Re: rear Dana 44

Pulling the axle out doesn't take very long and after you count the splines you'll know "for sure".

Re: rear Dana 44

Original equipment Scout II Dana 44 rear axles will have 30 spline axles. Sometimes, parts can get changed around on an older vehicle, so I can understand your concern. To the best of my knowledge, all Dana 44 rear flanged axles manufactured after 1971 will be 30 spline. To the best of my knowledge, the two piece axles were usually 19 spline. If there is a nut threaded onto the axle, similar to the AMC 20 rear axle nut, most likely the spline count is only 19.

Get the bill of materials number off the passenger side tube next to the diff cover and call your local drivetrain shop and ask them to please look it up.

Pull the rear cover and count the splines on the inside of the spider gear that the axle goes in to.
