Will not stop running!

I just fired up my brand new 258 for the first time. All is OK except for the fact that when I turned off the key, nothing happened! The engine kept running as nothing happened. I had to turn the idle screw down until it quit running.

With the new engine I installed a new MSD 6A. I think this is probably my problem. I followed the instructions carefully. Any ideas????

Re: Will not stop running!

This has been covered before. Since the search function is dead(?) you may have to research it on JU (sorry guys). There's a diode that has to go inline somewhere to prevent the run on.

Re: Will not stop running!

First off, try this test...
1. Start the vehicle.
2. Turn the key switch off.
3. Unplug the two wire connector for the alternator.

If your vehicle shuts off, a diode will work for your application.
