Best Air Cleaner set up for a CJ with Carter BBD

I have the stock air cleaner set up with a k&n air filter on my CJ. When ever I look into the air cleaner there always seems to be crap in there, which I dont want getting into the carb. I think the problem is that the air cleaner will not fully close and thus crap gets in there. Should i go with a pancake air cleaner or is there a better solution. Thanx

Do you mean crap on the inside of the filter? Because that is the setup I use with no problems. If the crud is on the outside of the filter, it's doing its job. Make sure the filter is not loose within the breather.
