4\" Lift, 33 tires : do I need Bump Stops ?

Hi everyone,

I am just about to order my 4" Skyjacker lift and the 4wdHardware catalog says "Bump Stops recommended".
I use my 83 CJ almost only off-road and I will be running 33".
Do I really need those bumps stops ?
What are they for ?
Thanks for your help

Short answer no, but heres what you do. Leave the stock ones on. Run a tire up a ramp or convenient rock until you are either at full compression or about to make contact with a fender. Now take a look underneath, see where your axle is compared to distance from the bumpstop, and adjust the stop accordingly using 1" square tubing. I had to drop mine 1". Those extended bumpstops not only look stupid, they are stupidly expensive and are generally longer than you need.

Thanks for your answer.
I am glad I don't need those bump stops !
Other than that I'll get Transfer Case Lowering Kit and extended brake lines.
Will I need anything else ?

Re: Bump Stops

Now I am still working on my 75 CJ5 and I did as Brad said made mine or should I say extended the existing ones about 2 with square stock. I have a 4 super lift and 1.5 shackle lift. I also added a new pitman arm (recommended for the 4 and over lift). So far it looks ok, still in the process of setting the motor in. also still need to get my longer break lines made up.

Have Fun!!

If its a CJ-7 I recommend forgetting the t-case lowering kit. You will have a little vibration, but you will also have much more clearance, that darn stock skidplate hangs low enough as it is.
