disassembling an auto tranny

I recently picked up a free auto tranny from a local transmission repair center so that I could have something to mess around with. I was able to get the outer parts off, but getting to the "guts" of the tranny is the hard part. I think that what I need to do next is remove that cover (the one in the attached pic). I have removed all the bolts from the cover (by the way, what is the proper name for it?) but do I need a special puller to get it off? Not quite sure how to remove it. Thanks.

Re: disassembling an auto tranny

thats the front pump cover, on some type of GM tranny, a th350 or 400 maybe ( I cant really see the pan shape at that angle, and dont know much about GM trannys!)

remove all of those bolts in teh circular pattern, then hopefully 2 of them, usually about half way up each side, will be threaded a bit larger than the bolts you removed, run larger bolts in those holes and itll push teh cover off.

I know that chrysler torqueflight trannys come apart this way, but IM unsure on GMs.

if theere arent threaded holes you use a slide hammer, then alot of the guts will spill in your lap.
