thats the front pump cover, on some type of GM tranny, a th350 or 400 maybe ( I cant really see the pan shape at that angle, and dont know much about GM trannys!)
remove all of those bolts in teh circular pattern, then hopefully 2 of them, usually about half way up each side, will be threaded a bit larger than the bolts you removed, run larger bolts in those holes and itll push teh cover off.
I know that chrysler torqueflight trannys come apart this way, but IM unsure on GMs.
if theere arent threaded holes you use a slide hammer, then alot of the guts will spill in your lap.
