Who has Broken a 14 bolt?

Hey, thinking about putting in a militray 14 bolt since I can get one with 456's and a detroit. Then I would have to get the special hubs to allow my wheel to mount further in. So just out of curiousity I was wondering how many people have broken a 14 bolt and what you think of the idea.

Re: Who has Broken a 14 bolt?

several of the most hard core guys here are running 14 bolts and no one has broken one yet. I did once hear of a guy that broke an axle shaft, but thats like hearing about the 30 point buck...

Well, unless you're running 38's, I'd wonder if you need that much beef.

I have not heard of anyone snapping one, just to answer your question.

And as Jim Palmer found out (member of our Jeep Club), ANYONE running 38's is going to get pulled and taped. He dropped back down to 36's to avoid the hassle. Maine is good in some regards, but they don't like large tires. He lives in Norway as well, up near you I think.

BTW, I know where there is a D70 with 4.88 gears in a yard, I think the guy wanted $300. It's complete drum to drum, but boy, is that thing MASSIVE!

Re: Who has Broken a 14 bolt?

Hi Jeepn, For Now I think I am going to stick to my 44 since I am only running the Q's. But If I new I would have put in a 14 bolt. It is so much cheaper for better components. I spent more on my 44, gears and locker than My brother did on a 14 bolt, detroit, and 4.56 gears.

Anyway thanks for the info on the maine laws. Anyhow last year my brother drove to portland every day with a yj SOA and 36 and never seemed to have a problem. So he Had Ron order him up some 38 TSL's and I guess we will have to wait to find out what happens!!

Re: Who has Broken a 14 bolt?

the only thing i have see in a broken axle tube right by the pumpkin. of course this was a semi-floater w/SOA and a very rigid traction bar setup.
