Engine Knocking when I engage Clutch ?

I have a disturbing Knocking that seems to apear when I press the clutch and goes away when I release it. It sounds like it comes from the firewall area, not the floorboard.

The knocking sounds like an engine knocking, but it only happens with the clutch pushed in.

Both the transmission (T-150) and engine (258) are running better than ever before. I was just wondering how do diagnose the "Knock".

well, it seems it would be a clutch component like the throwout bearing or pilot bushing/bearing.

Do you have a worn out bushing in your clutch linkage thats getting rattled by the engine?

Re: Engine Knocking when I engage Clutch ?

One possibility is the thrust bearing in the engine is worn. This would allow the clutch to push the crank forward causing just such a knock.

Sounds like the throw out bearing if it starts when you touch the peddle and the bearing makes contact with the pressure plate then stops when you release. Time to pull the tranny!

Good Luck!

Re: Engine Knocking when I engage Clutch ?

I just had the transmission out a few weeks ago replacing seals, the throwout bearing looked OK? but I know looks are decieving, I will probably wait till it gets bad then pull it and do a new clutch to boot.

thanks for the input

Re: Engine Knocking when I engage Clutch ?

As a rule, EVERYTIME I pull a tranny it gets a new throw out bearing and pilot bushing as it is just to much work to repull the tranny to put in a new one later.

Good Luck!
