Ramsey PTO on D20?

I'm running a Dana 20 but with the gears of a D18. I could pick up a Ramsey PTO for the 20 but I'm wondering if it would work?
Thanks,

Re: Ramsey PTO on D20?

Why the D18 gears? Without knowing the difference I can't say for sure if the PTO will mesh up but, if it were mine, I'd get the D20 gears back in there if that's what it took.

The installation instructions don't say specifically which gear in the transfer case meshes with the PTO, but from the drawing it looks like it uses the middle gear - the one that is constantly meshed with the gear on the input shaft. It's been 24 years since I installed it, so I can't say for sure.

If you don't want it, please let me have a chance to pick it up as a spare. I sure do love mine.

Re: Ramsey PTO on D20?

Pigpen,
You have to find the pto driven gear for an early Bronco with the earlier version of the Bronco 20 transfer case. The tooth count and diameter are different from the standard 20 and the stock Jeep 20 pto will NOT mesh correctly. You risk destroying the intermediate gear (18-5-9) and the PTO driven gear. As you can imagine, these are extremely hard to find. Ed Holbrook of Holbrook Specialties (the guy that was just written up in JP Magazine for his springs) has the same setup on Trac Too, his 6 wheel drive DJ-6 (can be seen on the Jolly Jeeper's web site). I've been looking for another Bronco PTO driven gear for him for about 2 years with no success. He hasn't been able to find one either. You might be luckier though. Good luck. Nickmil

Thanks for the info, that's what I was afraid of.

It can't be terribly expensive to have a plain spur-cut gear made. If you can find the specs, call Jeff Clark at Clark Gear Works, 630 561-2320. He's in a Chicago suburb.

And what are the D18 gears? Higher ratio than standard D20 gears?

Re: Ramsey PTO on D20?

Nick, I guess a D20 PTO isn't going to mesh with a Tera Low 3.15:1, is it?
