Do I require a pitman arm?

Ihave a 89 YJ with a new 3 1/2 BDS lift kit on it. It came with a pitman arm for (PS) power steering. However I do not have power steering, all pitman arms I find for sale say (PS) so does this mean they didn't make one for (non-power steering YJ's?) or does this just mean I don't need one? Or better yet, my drop pitman arm will work on my YJ?

Re: Do I require a pitman arm?

You do need a dropped pitman arm for the steering to work properly. Sorry I can't say if the one you have will work. Somebody on the board probably knows. If nothing else, try it.

I might have been born at night, but it wasn't LAST night.

Re: Do I require a pitman arm?

If you don't have power steering, you can't use a power steering dropped pitman arm. You'll need to get a manual steering dropped pitman arm.

Re: Do I require a pitman arm?

I just installed the 4" BDS kit on my CJ and had the same problem. I decided to just wait until I convert to power steering and install it then. It's got a little bump steer, but not that bad, it's still very drivable.
I say try it without it first, and if you have excessive bump steer, find the right drop arm.

Re: Do I require a pitman arm?

YJ's from 87-95 offered in the base model (S) were manual steering. Power steering was an option on these models.
