CJ Headlight Upgrades

Okay, everybody knows the old standby for headlights in a CJ is the 6014 incadecent light. The main upgrade is a H6024 halogen. I'm currently running Sylvania H6024XV Xtra Vision lights that put out the same wattage as my 9007 bulbs in my Ford at low beam(65w/55w instead of 65w/45w). My question is this: Does anyone know of a polymer (plastic) lens headlight for the CJ? I prefer them (my Ford and plymouth both have them) for durability on gravel roads. Any ideas?

It's all a state of mind, and if you don't mention the state of my mind, I'll be happy to overlook yours!

Re: CJ Headlight Upgrades

I replaced the lights in my 7 with Cibie Z Beams and 55W halogen bulbs, and I love them. They are glass lenses, though, and I have one cracked now. When I put in a new one (I hope they are still available) I am going to cover the lense with helicopter tape.

I might have been born at night, but it wasn't LAST night.

Although not plastic, I belive IPF makes a headlight conversion that lets you use their 1/4" thick glass lens with normal 9004 bulbs. A few friends have them and they have not broken yet.

Re: CJ Headlight Upgrades

Take a look at this....

http://lighting.mbz.org/tech/how_to/relays/
I installed these on a CJ and an old FJ40 Land Cruiser and man what a difference it makes. Its just some relays that tie into your wiring and the battery so when you hit the switch you get juice strait out of the battery. Makes a big difference.

Im using the 7in Hella reflector housings(not DOT approved)and a set of PIAA Xtreme White H4 bulbs. They are glass, but damn are they bright!

Re: CJ Headlight Upgrades

I looked at the Hellas in JCW....looks promising.

Re: CJ Headlight Upgrades

I also run the Hella housings with the IPF super-duper bulbs, VERY satisfied.

The housings are glass, but if I were concerned about breakage, I would just slap on some of those inexpensive light guard things that look like chicken wire.

Re: CJ Headlight Upgrades

I had glass ones ($45/each) that cracked when I did a cold water crossing, that's why I wouldn't get glass ones again. I don't think the stone guards wouldn't have helped there.
