Rochester parts

I have a reman.Rochester Sitting on my Kitchen chair for about two months, and the chair still won't run LOL
Actually I took it apart after discovering a slight trace of very fine grit in the fuel bowl.Taking it apart further looking for a ported source for vacume I noticed the plastic inserts in the main wells missing.
My question is how important are the plastic inserts and if anyone knows of a source for them ?
The reason I went with a reman. was I couldn't find one that wasn't rusted shut.
in the yards.Plus after a certain year the base got larger and won't fit the 258 manifold.
I did take a set out of a larger rochester but the tops were too big to fit into the recess so I sanded them down thinner to fit.Should this work ?
And are they necessary ?
