Tranny maintenance

I have my engine out to be rebuilt. Should I do any maintenance to my T5 tranny. If so what?

Sorry for the double post - This f-cking bbs will not let me delete one of them.

Re: Tranny maintenance

You might as well. Tear it apart and see what it looks like. Then you will know what to do. If nothing is bad, you can at least clean it out and change the oil.

Re: Tranny maintenance

Check the input shaft and tail shaft for movement back and forth. Any excessive movement should be fixed by replacing shaft bearings. Inspect all the seals for tightness. It never hurts to check the shift fork for wear. Open the case up and check for broken gear teeth or excessively worn teeth, badly worn shift rail. Anything that "looks" worn or chewed up.

Check the pilot bearing where the input shaft meets the motor.
