TR- any spark-upgrade for 4.0?

Just wondering any ignition upgrade you would reccomend for a 94 4.0?

MSD 6 series module, a premium cap and rotor with brass terminals, a set of MSD 8.8 plug wires, and an MSD blaster coil.

Re: TR- any spark-upgrade for 4.0?

The large cap adapter will fit on the Lucas dist. used on the 4.0 HO engines. I think it is the same one as the Motorcraft dist.'s used on the 4.2l's. The one with the screws holding the adapter on and clips for the cap. I have one on mine with a "paid to remove" Jacobs mileage master coil and computer. Now I know why they paid me to remove it, only lasted 6 months. I just swapped the stock coil back on, and havn't had a problem with it for over 4 years.

Re: TR- any spark-upgrade for 4.0?

Dorfs, what rotor is used when you put the cap/adapter on the 4.0 HO dist? I really want to do this on my 95 XJ but I was just at the parts store comparing rotors between the 82 F-150 with the 300 I6(standatd 6 cyl TR upgrade parts right?) and my 4.0 HO and they are way differant. It didn't appear that the Ford rotor would work. If you could provide me with the P/N's you used I'd apprecate it.

Re: TR- any spark-upgrade for 4.0?

I don't have any part numbers anymore. It started out as with a Ford 300 tune, with the old cap and rotor laying on my bench for a couple of months. Later, after reading about TR's upgrade, I wondered if it would also work on the 4.0. I had a '95 4.0's dist. sitting on the bench also, so I ordered an adapter. It fit. When I installed the rotor, I remember it had some kind of interferance problem. The rotor would hit the cap as I spun it. Hal, another mechanic I work with said try this rotor. It fit and worked fine. I just pulled the cap of mine and it says 8 cylinder on it. That is about all the info I have at this time. Hope this helps.

Re: TR- any spark-upgrade for 4.0?

Thanks Dorfs thats most of the info I need. But, I don't suppose you could ask Hal if he remembers what vehicle make or maybe the engine size it may be from to hopefully shorten my search? Or maybe even post a couple pics of the rotor?

Re: TR- any spark-upgrade for 4.0?

All Ford V-8 Rotors are the same from '76 to about '96.

Yes, the MSD 6 series module, Brass terminal cap, rotor, and good coil will work on ANY ignition (with a distributor) to improve it.
