454BB cooling trouble

I love the 454BB in my CJ5, but now I have a cooling problem. I only have an 14" electric fan to cool it, and that simply isn't enough. I haven't got enough room for the OEM mechanical fan found on the 454. I know it is possible to get a low-profile mechanical fan, but can anyone on this board help me deciding what mechanical fan to get?

First of all is that 14" electric a puller or pusher? As far as mechanical goes if the electrics a pusher, you could use any of the flex-a-lite ones (as long as you get a small enough diameter. They make spacers too so you don't have to run a fan clutch (lets it sit closer to the engine) Just my $.02.

Re: 454BB cooling trouble

Aren't you in Denmark (where it is REALLY cold right now)?

Just thinking that if you are pulling cold air thru the radiator and still having a cooling problem that there might be more needing fixed than the size of the fan.

Just curious, but with that big block, an auto tranny and a 300, how long is your rear drive shaft? Or did you just bolt the 300 to the rear end?

Re: 454BB cooling trouble

RedSandDog: Yup, I'm in Denmark, freezing my balls off right now. I think I have now found a solution to my problem. I have just ordered a 18" mechanical fan, which has an offset towards the motor instead of the radiator. That oughtta do it. I putting it on thursday and hope for the best.
My rear driveshaft is actually 14" long. Not much, but enough. The big block is moved way forward to gain driveshaft lenght.
