Oil Leak. @ Distributor??

Hi, I just got the tub back on the jeep and still have an oil leak when I ran the engine. Now the 258 has a new rear main, oil pan and valve gasket. Now that the engine is all painted I noticed the oil dripping from the distributor. I am pretty sure it is not the fuel pump and is coming from the distributor. Has anyone heard of this? and is it just a simple gasket that I can replace. thanks Mike

Re: Oil Leak. @ Distributor??

I think the Distributor uses a O-Ring, Pull the Distributor out to check it. Good luck:

Re: Oil Leak. @ Distributor??

Yes, it uses a gasket. Just a simple paper ring gasket. Of course you have to pull your distributor to change it. Mark the position of the rotor against the body of hte distributor so that you can ensure it drops in the same position. Should only go in the correct way or 180 degrees out as the oil pump drive is a slot.

Re: Oil Leak. @ Distributor??

One thing that has been missed so far:

It is possible the distributor itself is leaking. On the distributor that came in my Jeep, the internal shaft somewhere had developed a leak. When I pulled it out to replace it, and turned it upside down, about a pint of oil dripped out. It was dripping out the cap and making a heck of a mess, and would only leak when the engine ran.
